The Litigation Team at BATEMAN SEIDEL consists of Greg Miner, J. W. Ring, Travis Hall, Christine (Tina) Zemina and Tina Dent. The Team has over 84 collective years of experience in the state and federal courts. Greg Miner, a founding member of the firm and former partner in two major Northwest law firms, has extensive litigation experience in both state and federal courts in numerous jurisdictions, including Oregon and Washington. J. W. Ring, a former senior trial lawyer with the US Department of Justice and partner in an international law firm, has a practice that includes litigation in federal and state courts in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California, numerous other states and three US Territories. Travis Hall, a former Army Judge Advocate, has a civil litigation practice focused in the Oregon and Washington State and federal courts. Tina Zemina, formerly with the New York firm of Seward & Kissel, is currently engaged in civil litigation in Oregon, Washington and California. Tina Dent, our legal assistant, has extensive experience in a major Northwest law firm and in this firm as a paralegal assisting the team with complex civil litigation in all of the state and federal courts where we appear.

The focus of our collective litigation practice is in the areas of: business, civil rights, commercial, construction, employment, environmental, housing and housing discrimination, mining, municipal, natural resources, real estate, water rights, and regulatory litigation. These are often the more complex cases, rather than the routine ones. We are happy to discuss these experiences with you in detail.

The trial team handles jury and non-jury trials, arbitrations, administrative hearings, contested case proceedings and appellate advocacy. We also represent clients in mediations. Either individual attorneys and Ms. Dent, or the entire team, can be available to represent clients depending on the needs of the case.

The philosophy and approach of the team is to first provide the client with an early assessment of the litigation issues and risks, as well as a budget of anticipated costs and fees. We have found that prompt and clear communication with clients about the status of the litigation, the issues involved, the upcoming risks, the various work tasks needed and their cost, is the most essential part of a successful representation of a client. If litigation is found to be necessary, then we evaluate resolution through mediation, settlement discussions, and the narrowing of the issues as early as possible in the case. Sometimes, it is essential to proceed with discovery first, before any settlement negotiations can occur. If so, this is done as efficiently as possible given the adversarial nature of the dispute. Budgets are updated as the case progresses.

If a case goes to trial, the team works very closely with clients, in-house counsel, the client’s other lawyers where appropriate, experts, consultants and other fact witnesses to prepare the case for presentation. We believe and practice the belief that only exceptional written work product and the highest quality oral and written advocacy at all times will produce the best result.

The BATEMAN SEIDEL Litigation Team has represented individuals, families, small businesses, partnerships, municipalities, public authorities, states, large national corporations, international business entities and foreign governments in a large variety of claims and disputes. Litigation is expensive and time-consuming and needs experienced and careful litigation professionals to guide and manage it. We have experience both as plaintiff and defense counsel. We are pleased to be able to provide personal references upon request.
